Hornets get stung by United in both divisions
The first division men kicked off at 1pm against the Hornets with less than ideal weather conditions. Mud, rain, and strong winds played a huge part in the strategies of both teams. Both teams battled through and United drawing the first blood in the match. Tries were scored by Gord Alliksaar, Cole Schonhofer, Curtis Giffen, and Orisi Vukivana, and to top off the scoring, Nick Hammerschmidt made two penalty kicks to secure the win. The final score ended 26-10 in favour of United.
Second division men kicked off at 2:30pm just as the sun was beginning to show itself after the rain. United had the luxury of fielding 15 fresh pairs of legs to go up against a team who had many players tired from the 1st division beating. Even with United having a very “green” forward pack they managed to hold their own in a very forward-dominated style game. Once again United struck first on the score board and didn’t let up. Near the end of the game, Nanaimo even tried to sub in some of their 1st division forwards to try and change the momentum of the game, but with little effect. The United forwards were solid of defence and the backs were breaking off big runs. The try scorers for United were Jesse Davies with 2 tries, Adrian Horwell , David Stephens each with 1.Ken Prosser made 2 conversions for a final score
