A unique opportunity to contribute to the administration of justice in a challenging legal environment

The Court Services Branch is responsible for the delivery of all court administration services in BC, including registry, trial support and Sheriff Services. The Registry provides the infrastructure to support the justice system and processes documents that are required by the court to ensure timely and effective processing of court cases.

Flexibility and organization is key in this role as you provide numerous administrative services to the Court and Registry. The Court Clerk documents court proceedings; exercises control of exhibits; assists and briefs judges; and provides technical assistance for registry staff. Interacting with members of the public, the bar and the judiciary, you will be responsible for pre- and in-court duties including managing, distributing, completing and interpreting court documents and files and reviewing them for accuracy. A highly professional, discreet and experienced administrator, you will enjoy the challenge and the reward of ensuring the protection of the public in British Columbia.

You will have exposure to unpleasant dealings with upset public and clients on a daily basis. In addition, you may be required to work overtime and to work in other areas of Court Services.

Qualifications:


To be considered for this position your resume must clearly demonstrate that you have the following:

- Secondary school graduation or equivalent;
- Two years clerical experience. A combination of related education/training and experience may be considered;
- Minimum of one year experience/training in a legal office environment;
- Training using standard office computer software, Word, Excel, Outlook;
- Minimum Keyboarding speed of 40 wpm
- Prefer two years experience/training in a court registry setting.

- Ability to provide and maintain professional liaison with Judiciary, members of the Bar and all other related agencies;
- Ability to learn assigned tasks and perform many diversified duties at one time, without immediate supervision;
- Ability to perform under pressure by meeting deadlines;
- Ability to be exposed to unpleasant testimony and materials;
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations;
- Ability to produce a high volume of work with speed , accuracy and attention to detail often under tight time constraints and with frequent interruptions, with tact and good judgment.
- Ability to write legibly for lengthy periods of time.
- Public speaking abilities for in-court duties.
