COVID-19 UPDATE

August 21st, 2020

Dear United Rugby Club Members,

The beginning of September traditionally marks the beginning of the Rugby season however with the COVID 19 pandemic, our season is going to look a lot different than normal.

The United Rugby Club has been heavily involved with BC Rugby in the preparation of a return to rugby plan. BC Rugby has called the September to December phase “Rugby Restarted”.

Each member club must apply to BC Rugby for permission to host rugby activities. This process has been intensive and arduous. Many thanks to the executive members involved in this plan.

Each of our programs (Mini, Juniors and Seniors) has submitted a plan, and we await a decision from BC Rugby.

Our plans have proposed a return to rugby which allows members with varying comfort levels relating to COVID 19 the opportunity to interact with their rugby family. These plans do change between the Mini, Junior and Senior playing groups.

Once we receive approval, BC Rugby will open our registration, and we will let all our members know.

I can tell you that everything is going to be different from online attestations that you are healthy prior to coming to practice to the one-way entrances onto and off the pitch.

The mandated cleaning of all equipment being used both before and after the practice and the separation required between all people on the field.

With a maximum of 50 people permitted at any time, spectators, including parents, will be severely limited or not permitted at all.

Physical contact between participants will be not permitted except for the occasional touch if that is the game your group is playing, and verbal discussions will be well separated, with lengthy discussions not happening at all.

Once we have received approval from BC rugby, we will be forwarding out a document to each club member with more details on what to expect.

We appreciate your patience at this time, as we complete all our documents, dotting the i’s and crossing the t’s and continue on this unprecedented path.

Yours in Rugby,
