MINIS
Registration Now Open for The 2026/27 Season
Looking for a fun, active, and welcoming sport for your child? United Rugby Club’s Minis program is a fantastic way for kids to get moving, make friends, and build confidence—no experience required!
Our Minis program is open to boys and girls from Kindergarten to Grade 6 (ages 4–11). Teams are organized based on BC Rugby age groups and are generally co-ed; however, we will run a U12 girls’ team if there is enough interest and competition available with local rugby clubs.

Training and Game Days
Our season runs in two parts:
Fall: September to early December
Spring: February/March to late May
Games are played across the Lower Mainland against other community clubs, giving
players the opportunity to learn and grow through fun, supportive competition. For older
age groups (U8–U12), the club also offers an optional annual tour to the Shawnigan
Lake School Jamboree, where players take on Vancouver Island teams and enjoy the
unique experience of travelling and bonding together as a team.
Players in the U6 to U8 age-groups play non-contact flag rugby, where the focus is on
fun, movement, and building confidence through play. Sessions are active and game-
based, helping kids develop fundamental skills like running, passing, catching, and
coordination in a supportive environment. With simple rules and lots of opportunities to
stay involved, players also learn early concepts like teamwork, sharing the ball, and
spatial awareness, all while making friends and enjoying being part of a team.
As players transition to U10, training becomes more focused on skill development while still
maintaining a fun, non-contact flag rugby environment. Players build confidence in
passing on the move, catching, running, and evasion, while improving fitness and
coordination. Through small-sided games, they learn to support teammates, move into
space, and understand basic positioning and team play, all while developing
communication and decision-making in a safe, fast-paced setting.
Our U12 Intro-to-Tackle program introduces contact rugby in a safe, step-by-step
progression, starting with basic skills like body positioning and safe falling before moving
into controlled drills and supervised contact. Coaches actively guide players throughout,
ensuring proper technique and confidence are built at each stage. With a strong focus on
safety, age-appropriate rules, and gradual development, players learn to tackle—and be
tackled—safely and confidently.
Minis rugby games for all age groups are held at the same location each week, making
it easy for families with multiple kids in the program.
Training: Wednesday evenings 6:00-7:00 pm at Maple Creek Middle School (3770 Hastings
Street, Coquitlam).
Games: Sunday from 10:00-11:30 am at various locations around the Lower Mainland.
NOTE: Training will be held on Sunday mornings between 10:00-11:00am at Maple Creek if we
don't have a game scheduled.
